Every girl will tell you, her hair is everything to her. Along with all the make-up, beauty products and other girly things, hair is what makes you feel like a woman. I’m here today to share with you my story and how hard it is battling with the incurable Alopecia that I have had since I was 13 years old.
Alopecia Areata is a type of hair loss disease that occurs when your immune system attacks hair follicles. The damage is often not permanent and is most common in people under 20. I was diagnosed at 13 when small patches of hair would start falling out but were pretty easy to cover up in the first few years. I would wear a hat or bandana that was in fashion and nobody knew any different. Sure, it knocked my confidence and was frustrating but was manageable. In the last few years its got a lot worse, bigger clumps of hair falling out and not really coming back. I’m left with patches across my head that are very obvious and heartbreaking.
Last week, with every ounce of confidence I have left and after a lot of soul searching I decided to shave the remaining strands of hair off. I felt that wearing a headscarf would be easier than looking in the mirror at bald patches everyday.
I’m getting married at the end of the year and my dream is the perfect wig, that looks just like my natural hair was and how my future husband met me but they’re not cheap. Like reallllly not cheap. I spoke to my insurance company and unfortunately, they do not cover the costs of this. While i’ve come to terms with the fact that on a day to day basis my hair may never come back I want to feel special on my wedding day, like every girl does and need your help to do it.
With the costs of the wedding, working 2 jobs and keeping a home I’m unable to pay for the wig alone. So please help me gain my confidence back for the wedding. I need to raise $3,300 for the wig and another $100 to have it fitted to my head perfectly. It will be the best thing to happen to me in a long, long time. Thank you so much for reading my story and for your consideration and donation to making the best day of my life, the best day of my life.
